National Urban League Centennial Conference Online: Promotes Economic Development
The National Urban League’s Centennial Celebration is taking place in Washington, DC, July 28-31. I’m watching the online stream of the conference and feel empowered. The conference has brought together some of the “leading business, community, and political figures” in the African American community. I am excited to see that the focus has shifted to promoting strong economic development.

Conservative group finally discovers Maryland is liberal-friendly
Four Maryland counties were listed in the top most liberal friendly counties in America. Montgomery County ranked second behind San Francisco, Calif., as the 2nd most liberal county in America. Prince George’s County ranked 32nd and Howard and Charles counties were listed at 47 and 93, respectively.
Prince George’s earned a lower spot than Montgomery in part because it is not as affluent, Daily Caller reporter Chris Palko said. Montgomery County has a median household income of $91,000 per year and Prince George’s County’s is $55,000, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, the most recent data available.
A significant reason Prince George’s — which the report noted is where “America’s largest black middle-class lives” — made the list is because it voted overwhelmingly for President Obama in 2008, Palko said. The president’s 85 percent victory in Prince George’s was the best in the United States, Palko said.
